Nominal duration: 415 hours (315 hours supervised including online assessment & 100 hours of work placement)
Course length: 5 days intensive full-time (with online components, and RPL or Certificate III and IELTS 6.0 with no score under 6), or 10 weeks full-time, or 20 weeks part-time

 

This course is ideal for the person who wishes to teach ESL to either children or adults. It covers everything in the Certificate IV in TESOL, but also has a strong focus on methodology, so that upon completion you will have practical ability in utilising the major TESOL methodologies used today.

Occupational titles may include:

  • TESOL teacher in language institute

  • Assistant TESOL teacher (for adults or children) 

  • In combination with another qualification in any job that has ESL-speakers as clients

 

Entry Requirements for Certificate IV in TESOL

  • Over age of 16

  • Satisfactory completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 11 or 12

OR

  • mature age entry

OR

  • Certificate III in TESOL

AND fluency in English reading, writing and speaking, with clear pronunciation

 

AND for learners from a non-English speaking background:

  • IELTS 6.5 with no score under 6 / ISLPR two skills at 3+ and two skills at 3 (or equivalent) as a minimum
